Overview

Catherine is regularly instructed in cases involving serious violence and murder/manslaughter, acting alone and as a led Junior.

Catherine was chosen as Junior Counsel to represent a 17-year accused of murder along with two other teenagers. The case involved CCTV experts, cell site experts and intermediaries.

Catherine represented a teenager accused of the attempted murder of a teenage girl who the Crown alleged was pushed over a 7^th floor balcony.

Catherine represented a man charged with s.18 (GBH with intent) after getting into an altercation with the complainant on a night out. The complainant and other prosecution witnesses were off duty police officers.

Catherine represented a 15-year-old who along with his 14-year-old brother was charged with attempt murder. The defendants committed the offence against a 46-year-old man in the

middle of the day in a public park. The victim was so badly injured he was unable to give evidence. The prosecution eyewitness was the victim’s 10 year old son.

Catherine represented a young man accused of a gang related murder. Catherine successfully made an application to exclude alleged confession evidence.

Catherine represented a man charged with violent disorder, affray and assault on police and other emergency workers. Catherine successfully opposed the Crown’s application to adduce bad character evidence.

Catherine represented a defendant charged with attempt murder who was diagnosed schizophrenic and initially unfit to stand trial. The defendant was later deemed fit, and the matter was remitted for trial. The defendant had caused his father very serious injury during a psychotic episode. Expert psychiatric evidence was relied upon.

Overview

Catherine has vast experience of acting in all drugs related matters in the Criminal Courts, including Confiscation Proceedings.

Catherine represented the first defendant in what was at the time, the largest class A drugs operation to be prosecuted in the northeast. There were 12 defendants, vast quantities of phone evidence and multiple experts.

Catherine represented a young defendant charged with PWITS class A. The defendant ran duress.

Catherine represented a 14-year-old charged with PWITS in a county lines drug case. The defendant had a positive NRM (modern slavery referral.)

Catherine successfully appealed a sentence of immediate imprisonment for a young lady caught with a small quantity of cocaine at a music festival. [2023] 1 Cr. App. R. (S.) 45

Catherine represented a young defendant charged with the rape of his then partner. The Crown relied on a text message as a confession.

Catherine defended a young semi-professional cricketer accused of raping a young lady he met on a night out. There was extensive CCTV of the interaction between the parties in

various pubs before the incident.

Catherine acted for a defendant in an allegation of rape and other sexual offences involving two complainants he met on a dating application. Catherine successfully made an application to dismiss.

Catherine represented a defendant with complex psychological disorders accused of sexually assaulting his 5-year-old niece.

Catherine acted for a masseur charged with serious sexual offences against two of his customers.

Catherine represented a defendant accused of sexually assaulting his 10-year-old daughter.

Catherine represented a defendant charged with multiple sex offences against his granddaughter over a 7-year period.
