I was called to the Bar in Inner Temple in 1987 and joined Walnut House in 1989. I studied history at Southampton University where I graduated top of my year. I then attended City University, London undertaking the Diploma in Law and then proceeding to an MA where my thesis was entitled Damages for Mental Distress for Breach of Contract. I was then awarded a Duke of Edinburgh Entrance Scholarship by the Inner Temple and a major award. I have judged a number of Mooting competitions and have lectured on boundaries and easements on professional continuing education courses and to students. Land I accept instructions in all manner of land cases for both developers and private individuals as both Claimants and Defendants in relation to boundaries, easements, restrictive covenants, adverse possession, and public and private rights of way appearing before the Courts, the Lands Tribunal and Government Inspectors. Chancery I also accept instructions in a large variety of traditional Chancery matters including wills & probate, trusts including Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees. Planning I regularly advise and represent landowners, developers, private individuals and Local Authorities in relation to planning applications and issues including change of use, certificates of lawful use and enforcement on Local Inquiries and Statutory Appeals. Landlord and Tenant I advise and act in both business and residential landlord and tenant cases including right to buy, disability discrimination, and unfair contract terms in consumer tenancies issues for Landlords (including Housing Associations) and tenants. Financial Ancillary Relief I accept instructions in a wide variety of matrimonial and quasi-matrimonial financial ancillary relief matters especially where land, farming, business or insolvency issues exist. Although my main areas of work are set out above I regularly accept instructions in a wide variety of civil work including nuisance and negligence cases, including professional negligence.
