Area of Practice:Criminal Law Barrister

A crime specialist.  Experienced in all manner of criminal cases, including sexual offences, drugs and violence including murder.  Experienced in specialist areas, such as local authority work, fisheries, health and safety and food standards.

I was called to the Bar in 1996 and joined Walnut House in 1997 from 39 Essex Street in London. I studied law at Cambridge and spent 18 months thereafter studying history at Harvard. I was awarded a scholarship to Grays Inn for the Bar Vocational Course and subsequently spent a year travelling through Africa before embarking on a career on the Western Circuit.

I judge mooting competitions at Exeter University and participate in the Bar’s Human Rights for Schools initiative.

I accept instructions in all manner of criminal cases; my work is divided evenly between defending and prosecuting. I appear in trials on a daily basis in the Crown Courts at Exeter, Plymouth, Truro, Taunton, Bristol and beyond. I cover the full range of criminal work from murders, rapes and arsons to frauds, thefts, child cruelty and ordinary assaults.

I am particulary experienced in dealing with serious child abuse cases. I am well adept in representing clients who suffer from learning difficulties and other mental illnesses.

I also appear to prosecute and defend in specialist areas (e.g. local authority work, fisheries, health and safety, food standards etc.) I also have experience in handling court martials, prison adjudications and inquests.
