We are very pleased to welcome two new members to Walnut House: Brian FitzHerbert a graduate of Cambridge University and formerly a tennant at 2 Harcourt Buildings, and Felicity Payne, a graduate of Southampton University, following her successful completion of pupillage with us.
Murder Trial Concluded
Members of Walnut House were involved in a high profile murder trial that concluded recently in Truro. Paul Dunkels Q.C. and David Evans appeared for the prosecution and Geoffrey Mercer Q.C. was leading Counsel defending Ross Stone, one of two defendants. The case involved the shooting of two men who had links to serious organised crime and a drugs gang from Liverpool. One defendant, Thomas Haigh, was convicted of murder and sentenced to serve life imprisonment with a minimum of 35 years. Ross Stone was acquitted of the murders but admitted burning and burying the bodies of the murder victims and was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for obstructing the Coroner in the execution of his duty.
